OMORI AU: The Curse Of Faraway

I actually think there's a YouTube video of a similar AU, but it's not quite the same.

TW: TONS of suicide, depression, and all that jazz, and urban legends (kind of)

In this AU, Kel goes to knock on the door of Sunny's house, as usual. However, Sunny is still hallucinating a lot, so when he opens the door, instead of Kel, he sees Something. Before Kel can react, Sunny stabs him, accidentally killing him, similar to when Basil stabbed Sunny's eye due to a hallucination. When Sunny hears Kel's groan of pain, followed by a shocked and betrayed "SUNNY....?" and the sound of his body thudding against the floor, his hallucination fades, and he realises he killed Kel. At that moment, he hears Omori's voice in his head:

"Again...?"

"You killed someone you loved yet again...?"

"How can you say you loved them then...?"

"How can you say you're worthy of love...?"

"Mari loved you and you killed her. Kel loved you and you killed him."

"You are nothing but a killer. You don't deserve to live."

Shattered, Sunny immediately turns the knife on himself, stabbing himself to death.

Their dead bodies keep sitting in Sunny's house until Kel's mom sends Hero to check on Kel the next day when he comes home from college, since Kel hadn't come back last night, nor had he let her know he was staying over. When Hero arrives, however, he finds the front door unlocked, so he goes in and immediately sees Kel and Sunny lying dead on the ground. He falls to his knees in utter despair, and begins to sob over their dead bodies, not bothering to call an ambulance since he can tell they're beyond saving. Eventually, he calls his mom and tells her what he found. Police arrive shortly, and declare it as a murder-suicide, and the news spreads throughout Faraway like a wildfire.

That night, Hero hangs himself in his back garden, almost in honour of Mari, and is discovered by his parents the next morning.

"Did you hear? Mari's little brother and the (Kel and Hero's last name)'s youngest son were found dead in the same house Mari died!"

"Really? That house sure is haunted..."

"What's worse, is the (k+h/l/n)'s eldest son also died, and by hanging too! Just like Mari... Oh, that poor family..."

Soon Basil hears this news from Polly around One Day Left, and then goes into the bathroom, garden shears in hand. Polly finds his body in the bathroom an hour later, stab wounds all over his torso.

Aubrey is left as the only girl standing, but not for long. On Moving Day, Sunny's mom arrives, but suddenly Aubrey starts walking across the crosswalk during a green light, too devastated to notice her fatal mistake, and Sunny's mom ends up running Aubrey over. Sunny's mom immediately gets out and calls an ambulance, but it's too late. At that moment Kel and Hero's parents run out of the house with Sally to see Sunny's mom standing there horrified, while paramedics take Aubrey's body away from the scene. They rush over to her, and ask if she's alright, and she responds that she's doing just as well as anyone else would in this situation, seeing as she recognised the girl she ran over as Aubrey. Then Hero and Kel's parents offer their condolences regarding Sunny, and Sunny's mom replies:: Sunny's mom: "What? What do you mean, you're sorry about my son? He's still alive, isn't he...?"

Hero and Kel's dad: "No... He... killed Kel and then himself, three days ago."

Hero and Kel's mom: "I'm so sorry..."

Sunny's mom is in denial briefly, before breaking down sobbing. Kel and Hero's parents comfort her, before they bump into a tearful Polly. The three heartbroken parents and one heartbroken caretaker spend a while just mourning together, and then eventually, after many years, they get back on their feet.

Sunny's house is abandoned, no one wanting to live there, not even Sunny's mom.

Years later, the tale of the 6 teenagers becomes an urban legend::

"Have you heard? At the end of the road, there's a creepy house, and if you go there at night, you'll see the ghosts of 6 teenagers wandering the house...

A tall boy in an orange basketball uniform roams the atrium, a large stab wound in his chest. He can be heard whispering, "SUNNY..." over and over, like a broken record. If you approach him, he will ignore you, instead searching for his brother, despite walking in circles.

A shorter boy with hair and eyes as black as night stands alone nearby, covered in blood, with multiple stab wounds in his torso. He will follow you if you approach him, muttering that 'Something's behind you'.

Out in the garden, two youth, one a young man and the other a young woman hang from a tree, still holding hands. They do not respond to interaction, but instead hang there motionlessly.

In the bathroom, a short boy wearing a flower crown and holding bloodied garden shears stares at the mirror, mumbling incoherently. If you approach him, he will grab your shoulders, desperately asking, "SUNNY... MARI... AUBREY... KEL... HERO... where are they....? ...why did they leave me...?" Unless you can answer him correctly, he will get agitated and stab you to death with his shears. The correct answers are that SUNNY and KEL are downstairs, HERO and MARI are outside, and AUBREY is by the roadside.

Finally, standing outside the house by the road, is a girl with dyed pink hair stained with blood. She is weeping quietly, and walking up and down the crosswalk, calling out for her friends. If you approach her, she will simply beat you to death with her baseball bat."

Multiple people go into the house on different occasions, and mysteriously disappear because of it.

It becomes known as The Curse Of Faraway.

Guess I know what it’s like being from a specific fanfic now. It’s an… interesting experience, that’s for sure. Especially when the fic is ongoing and you’re in the official discord server for it, seeing people discuss and theorize about your life.

For people who don’t know, Faraway Killers is this amazing OMORI fanfiction where basically Sunny and Basil and serial killers.

Heya ryhmus here and...I feel like I need to confess something, vent a bit in response to this post.

It's not a big secret that my works are...'not as original', they contain mostly references to other media and pop culture, it's unhinged humor. Hell, I'd consider Noli Mei Oblivisci to be just, 'The Borderlands of Omori Fanfiction'. (hah) I created the story because at the time, I saw how many 'Headspace and Reality Merge' stories either were very samey or most commonly, 'unfinished since 2021'

I made my 30 chapter story over the course of a year and a half to give people something unique and standalone and most importantly, finished. And I did so.

When I write, I do it in small bursts and at the time it looks good, inspiration feels fleeting, it comes and goes and daily life just kinda takes it out under you when you're not looking. And when I do finish a chapter finally, it feels good...for a while until I recall all the errors and plot holes. I'm not the best writer, but I feel I need to follow a quality standard when it comes to making writings.

I know it's wrong to think this way, but I measure how well my chapters do on how many comments I get, it's my main motivation...sometimes I get a few, most times, not at all. If I'm gonna be self-aware, this post I'm writing may not even get any responses, I get it, not everyone has something to say up their sleeve. You leave a like or reblog and that's it. That's okay.

And afterwards I see everyone's else's works like all the big ones (Pursuit, Their Time, Faraway Killers. The big stars everyone from here to Reddit talk about, make art about, whole discord sections about...) and I see mine and feel a bit inferior, jealous, maybe a tiny bit resentful...I shouldn't. Angst isn't for everyone.

Too many questions...like;

"I feel like i'm the only person interested in this topic."

"What if I'm not good enough to be like them that others ?" (I've said it before)

"Am I being impatient for wanting results faster? Not satisfied with just likes?"

Goes for my art too. "Is pixel art even real art?

"Is it bad to think because no one really makes fan art of your stuff that you just do it yourself?"

"I want to be cool too but what if my writing just pushes readers away? Is my vocabulary too confusing?"

"Are my sentences too long? run ons? the correct use of a adjective?"

"Is this an 'in-character' thing this character would do?"

"Where did that word I wanted to use in my sentence go? guess I'll remember later."

"If I try and push it out there, people will just ignore it or outright reject it." (last time I tried on a discord server, I was told it was 'shilling')

And most importantly;

"What's the point of putting in all this effort in making a cool story if nobody makes a big, detailed comment about everything?"

and/or

"What if people read this, get angry and automatically shun from this safe plane of digital existence me for speaking my mind? And will I be forced to return to the diluted pits of forbidden dark arts that is...Deviantart?

I'm getting off track and this post is really long already so I'll say it;

I'm going to look back at this and regret most of what I've written here, (I already am!) But I am a fanfiction writer, ((It's in my blog title)) I want to share my works wherever I can.

On the sense of shame and secrecy attached to being a fanfic writer

Most fanfic writers are "faceless", right? We write under a pseud, our readers usually don't know our faces, and the people in our real lives sometimes don't know that we write fanfics.

For me this "secrecy" has kind of affected my ability to hype my own fanfics. There is always a lingering voice in my head saying stupid stuff like;

"Be humble, it's only fanfiction, not a novel.

"Why advertise and hype as if you'll make money off it?"

"Its just fanfiction and there must be a weirdness and shame to it that makes you "hide" from your readers and from your friends/family."

...If there are any fanfic writers with that silly voice in their heads, I'm here to tell you that you don't need to be humble. You don't have to post your fanfic on ao3 and be done with it. There is no rule that says we can't be shameless about spreading the word on our works. It's 2024 and fanfiction is as important, respectable, valuable and precious as any other form of art.

The fact that it's not original and that we don't make money off it is irrelevant. There is nothing weird or shameful about fanfics or writing them. Idk about you but for me keeping this life from my friends and family is a way of protecting my joy. This way, fanfic writing is the one beloved thing I get to keep away from the seriousness of real life

If you have the genuine desire to reach out to more people with your stories, then post about them across all social media platforms; post them on several fanfic sites, post and reblog them here every few days; if the celebrity you write fanfics for enjoys reading fanfiction then tag them on twt when you share your story updates; tell that irritating aunt who can keep a secret that you're a fanfic writer; tell your therapist that you updated a chapter. Go crazy

We're not making any money from our works but we're having fun writing them while also delivering joy to readers. So go ahead and advertise the shit out of your own stories like you're your own biggest fan who would go broke for your works.

Wanting to draw and post stuff, but the only thing going through our head for the past few months has been OMORI, and every time we try to draw a human the face/head looks so bad

The only 3 humans/humanoids we’ve drawn in months and actually been happy with have been versions of Basil (HEADSPACE, Stranger, and the one from Faraway Killers)

We could always make a dragon AU or something but our brain is not letting us come up with cool designs xd
